Chess is the type of game that is "all levels" plus beginner almost at once. That is - you have to understand all the strategies and the board set up and how the pieces move. From both sides of the board - because your mind has to begin almost at once to "see it from both sides" to understand the strategies and even "when the game is over before it is technically over from one point of view". As you read you realize that you will eventually have a difficult time because there is a game "beginning" and then many ways the game "stops" and only one of these is a "win". Also - For adults and I would guess children - choose the point of view of your specific nation - because the tournaments and players locally (outside of maybe intermediates and masters) are grouped from rules that are used and "in play" there. FIDE is a small set of letters with a large meaning. Also - I decided reading from two master beginner to intermediate series is helpful in letting the brain get used to the whole idea that small sentences are "facts" and also that there is another way to "look at facts" - different points of view of the same thing.
